ChatGPT has taken the higher education spaces by storm, and it is here to stay! The LUMS Learning Institute is holding a panel discussion to address the increasing impact of Chat GPT on academic research, challenges to learning assessment, industry, and the university at large.
Join us for an insightful panel discussion on Chat GPT, an open-source chatbot software capable of generating artificial dialogue. The panelists include an interesting mix of academics and industry experts.
The session will be moderated by Dr. Hamad Alizai, Associate Professor, Computer Science and Director, LUMS Learning Institute.

About the Panelists
Dr. Jessica Albrent, Assistant Professor, Research Methods/Design Thinking,
Syed Ahsan Ali and Syed Maratib Ali School of Education (SOE), LUMS
Following a 15-year career as a teacher and leader in international schools, Dr. Albrent is now an Assistant Professor at SOE. While her research interests are primarily effective data use and assessment practices, all her work is underpinned by a belief that improvement in education starts with better access and opportunities for marginalised learners and communities.
Mr. Yasser Bashir, Founder and CEO, Arbisoft
Mr. Bashir has been an active contributor to the start-up ecosystem and has served as a mentor and advisor at the LUMS Center for Entrepreneurship, PlanX accelerator, Invest2Innovate and Telenor Velocity. He has advised more than 100 start-ups in formal and informal capacities. He holds a BS in Computer Science from LUMS and an MS in Management Science and Engineering from Stanford University. His company Arbisoft is one of Pakistan's fastest-growing software and technology development companies, employing 600 full-time staff and has built technology for some of the leading tech businesses around the world.
Dr. Arshad Ahmad, Vice Chancellor, LUMS
Prior to his current role as Vice Chancellor, LUMS, Dr. Ahmad served as Vice Provost, Teaching and Learning, and Director of the MacPherson Institute at McMaster University in Canada. Dr. Ahmad completed his MBA and subsequently, PhD in Psychology at McGill University, won a lifetime 3M National Teaching Fellowship in 1992 and was a professor of finance at Concordia and McMaster Universities. He has been named International Educator of the Year, 2022 by the Academy of International Business. His research interests are in student evaluations of teaching, approaches to teaching, teaching philosophies and student partnerships.
Dr. Nauman Faizi, Assistant Professor of Religion, LUMS
Dr. Faizi’s research interests include philosophy of religion, hermeneutics, semiotics, and modern Islamic thought. His current teaching work is focused on theories and methods in religious studies and topics within the philosophy of religion.
Dr. Ihsan Ayyub Qazi, Associate Professor, Computer Science, LUMS
Dr. Qazi received his PhD in Computer Science from the University of Pittsburgh, USA in 2010 and the BS degree from LUMS with a double major in Computer Science and Mathematics in 2005. His research interests are in networked systems and span cloud computing, ICT for development, mobile/wireless networks, and online privacy.
Dr. Hamad Alizai Associate Professor, Computer Science, LUMS (Moderator)
Dr. Alizai brings years of experience as a faculty, researcher, software engineer, and technical lead both in industrial and academic settings. He has authored a book and published more than 60 scientific papers while abroad and indigenously from Pakistan, several of them in top-flight ACM/IEEE journals and conferences. He is a certified trainer for the ‘Instruction Skills Workshop’ and regularly conducts pedagogical workshops for faculty at LUMS.
